Aliant and the Aliant Pioneer Volunteers present more than $100,000 to local charities during annual Christmas campaign
St. John's - An Aliant Christmas tradition continued today during celebrations in the Fort William Building where Aliant and the Aliant Pioneer Volunteers donated more than $100,000 to 60 charities around Newfoundland and Labrador. Representatives from some of the charities were on hand to receive the donations and take part in the celebrations which included performances by the Quintessential Vocal Ensemble, Pure Jam and of course a visit from Santa.
"I am very proud of what Aliant and our Aliant Pioneer volunteers have done here today," said Frank Fagan, Chief Operating Officer. "This truly reflects the commitment our employees have to the communities where they live and work and Aliant is proud to support their efforts. For them and many of our community partners this event and these donations mark the true beginning of the Christmas season."
"The financial and volunteer support of Aliant and the Aliant Pioneer Volunteers is critical to the success of our program," said Eg Walters, General Manager of the Community Food Sharing Association. "We run on a combination of donated cash, food and service. It all comes together with the support of community minded organizations like Aliant to help families in the province put food on the table."
Since 1985, Aliant and the Aliant Pioneers have been helping organizations in the province carry out their work with cash contributions and donations of Christmas stockings. This year, in addition to cash donations of $85,000 the Pioneers have collected 500 stockings filled with gifts by Aliant employees. These stockings will be distributed to families in need by community based organizations.
